class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>Bien entendu, on peut \u2013 pour autant que l\u2019on en ait les moyens- ne pas vouloir accrocher un Bacon dans son salon. Admiratif de certains aspects de sa d\u00e9marche, je ne suis pas particuli\u00e8rement attir\u00e9 par son travail et n\u2019en suis pas un sp\u00e9cialiste. Les propos qui suivent ne se veulent pas exhaustifs quant \u00e0 ce qui d\u00e9termine la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019\u0153uvre de Bacon, et s\u2019excusent par avance aupr\u00e8s des ex\u00e9g\u00e8tes attitr\u00e9s du peintre de laisser de c\u00f4t\u00e9 des pans entiers de son travail s\u00fbrement n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 une compr\u00e9hension plus exacte de son \u0153uvre.\u00a0<\/em><em>J\u2019\u00e9cris ces lignes en tant que peintre et non en tant que critique d\u2019art. Je le fais pour souligner \u00e0 travers lui une part qui me para\u00eet essentielle dans les exigences du travail artistique. C\u2019est aussi une fa\u00e7on de remercier Francis Bacon pour la loyaut\u00e9 qu\u2019il a d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e afin de garder ouverte vers le r\u00e9el la porte de la peinture.<\/em><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/terredecompassion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bacon-1-e1575223577471.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"313\" \/><\/p><p><em>Three studies for self portrait 1972<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 Francis Bacon .<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Ce qui m\u2019a fait entrer avec int\u00e9r\u00eat dans le travail de Francis Bacon est son aveu de ne pas aimer les tableaux qui cherchent \u00e0 raconter une histoire. Lorsque l\u2019on regarde son travail, que l\u2019on \u00e9coute ses entretiens \u00e9crits ou t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9s\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0, que l\u2019on se penche sur cette \u00ab\u00a0<i>logique de la sensation\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00a0<\/i><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_2\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0qu\u2019est sa d\u00e9marche artistique, force est de constater qu\u2019il a cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9vacuer le narratif. Il l\u2019a fait sans choisir l\u2019abstraction. Ne renon\u00e7ant pas \u00e0 la figure et pour en tirer toute sa force, il isole cette derni\u00e8re, l\u2019encercle, l\u2019ampute. Il la livre soumise \u00e0 une \u00e9trange pesanteur int\u00e9rieure qui instaure une logique de transformation. Stupeur ! L\u2019homme que l\u2019on d\u00e9couvre est ce familier que l\u2019on osait pas dire, et il semble se mirer dans le miroir de ce ce si\u00e8cle ! L\u2019homme est nu, d\u00e9pouill\u00e9 du fard des relations sociales et des illusions qu\u2019il pouvait encore se faire sur lui-m\u00eame au si\u00e8cle pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Il n\u2019a plus de centre, il a perdu son principe d\u2019unit\u00e9, il se d\u00e9sagr\u00e8ge. La mati\u00e8re ici coagule et boursoufle, l\u00e0 elle s\u2019\u00e9puise, ailleurs elle s\u2019absente\u2026 Un doute profond sur la personne semble informer chaque once de mati\u00e8re. L\u2019homme est seul, comme perdu dans un monde coup\u00e9 de sa source, dans un d\u00e9cor accul\u00e9 \u00e0 devenir chirurgical. Les corps, les visages sont \u00e9maci\u00e9s, ils ont le teint de la mort et pourtant vivent encore. Ils ne sont pas d\u00e9figur\u00e9s, (les autoportraits de Bacon, par exemple, nous laissent le loisir de le reconna\u00eetre), mais des maux profonds s\u2019invitent en surface. Une racine malade vient dire son fruit de mani\u00e8re plus crue que cruelle.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/terredecompassion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bacon-2-e1575275185775.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><p><em>Tryptique<\/em>, Francis Bacon.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Bacon semble peindre un \u00e9tat transitif, une corruption, le lieu d\u2019un changement de nature. Il peint une forme qui tombe, une chute. \u00ab\u00a0<i>la forme n\u2019est plus essence elle est devenue accident\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>.\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_3\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 Lui, dit chercher \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0<i>peindre le cri plut\u00f4t que l\u2019horreur\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>.\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_4\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0Le cri est volatile, colore tout l\u2019environnement qui le contient, il est vie, expression d\u2019une souffrance et \u00e0 sa fine pointe, affirmation d\u2019un absolu d\u00e9sir\u00e9 mais absent. Le cri est peut-\u00eatre le dernier instant de ce d\u00e9sir, l\u2019effort de la conscience qui ne veut pas s\u2019\u00e9teindre, l\u2019ultime (il est aussi le premier) acte de la volont\u00e9 vers son bien propre\u2026 Le cri est libre, il attend le miracle. L\u2019horreur est un constat d\u00e9finitif. Elle est fig\u00e9e, froide, \u00e9teinte et pass\u00e9e. Elle est le fait qu\u2019une force de mort a \u0153uvr\u00e9 \u00e0 sa guise. \u00c0 n\u2019en pas douter l\u2019\u0153uvre de Bacon peint le cri.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/terredecompassion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bacon-3-e1575223624234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"466\" \/><\/p><p><em>Three studies for self-portrait<\/em>, Francis Bacon.<\/p><p>S\u00fbrement que la vie affective du peintre que l\u2019on sait extr\u00eamement tumultueuse (ce qualificatif est bien loin de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9) a influenc\u00e9e son travail. Cependant, je crois qu\u2019il serait simpliste de r\u00e9duire tout son art \u00e0 cette ex\u00e9g\u00e8se. Il avait une grande connaissance de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art (qu\u2019il pensait \u00eatre une des exigences premi\u00e8res pour pouvoir se dire peintre) et m\u00eame s\u2019il s\u2019en d\u00e9fendait parfois devant les cam\u00e9ras, une conscience aiguis\u00e9e d\u2019\u00eatre un des peintres occidentaux incontournables du XX si\u00e8cle (si\u00e8cle qu\u2019il tient presque en entier entre sa naissance et sa mort)\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_5\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0. Il a pris la cr\u00e9ation artistique au s\u00e9rieux, conscient que\u00a0<i>chaque peintre, \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re, r\u00e9sume l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art.<\/i>\u00a0<i><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_6\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/i><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/terredecompassion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bac-e1575276548467.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"544\" \/><\/p><p><em>Study of George Dyer in a mirror<\/em>, Francis Bacon<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>S\u2019il est une puret\u00e9 dans l\u2019art du ma\u00eetre Anglais, c\u2019est s\u00fbrement d\u2019avoir cherch\u00e9 sans compromis \u00e0 dire quelque chose du r\u00e9el, et de le concr\u00e9tiser en tirant de mani\u00e8re h\u00e9ro\u00efque les cons\u00e9quences de cette intuition fulgurante : la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la figure ne peut se dire que directement, sans passer par un discours, une narration, une ambiance. Il cherche un contact direct avec l\u2019\u00e9tincelle qui fait que l\u2019homme est homme, la chose est chose. La pr\u00e9sence ne peut s\u2019actualiser sans se d\u00e9barrasser \u2013 et \u00e0 n\u2019importe quel prix \u2013 des\u00a0<i>\u00ab\u00a0qu\u2019est ce qui se passe? Qu\u2019est ce qui va se passer, ou qu\u2019est ce qui s\u2019est pass\u00e9?<\/i>\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_7\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/span><i>\u00a0(\u2026) \u00ab\u00a0Elle peut se montrer, elle ne peut pas se raconter.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0<\/i><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_8\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[8]<\/sup><\/a><\/span><i>\u00a0.\u00a0<\/i>Pour cela, le peintre brouille et efface, il nettoie sa toile de tout ce qui pourrait tendre \u00e0 une atmosph\u00e8re intimiste. Il veut nous emp\u00eacher d\u2019atteindre le \u00ab\u00a0j\u2019ai compris\u00a0\u00bb, de nous installer dans la toile comme au coin du feu. Il le fait en introduisant d\u00e8s le d\u00e9part et \u00e0 chaque \u00e9tape de la cr\u00e9ation ce qu\u2019il nomme \u00ab\u00a0une catastrophe\u00a0\u00bb. C\u2019est sa gomme. Il faut \u00e9teindre ce qui dans la figure est n\u00e9cessairement narratif par un \u00e9l\u00e9ment irrationnel, un jaillissement issu de la catastrophe et catastrophe lui-m\u00eame, un apport non d\u00e9cid\u00e9 par la raison qui s\u2019\u00e9chappe de la main aveugle et vient happer la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019une conceptualisation, d\u2019un rapport au temps discursif qui emp\u00eacherait la pr\u00e9sence. Entrer authentiquement dans cette qu\u00eate c\u2019est entrer dans un processus o\u00f9 le peintre doit, dans un combat sans piti\u00e9 contre lui-m\u00eame, dispara\u00eetre. Conscient que la chose \u00e0 dire le d\u00e9passe de toute part, il pr\u00e9dispose l\u2019impr\u00e9vu, cherche \u00e0 provoquer le miracle. C\u2019est comme s\u2019il devait peindre \u00e0 son insu, afin que le tableau puisse accueillir la trace d\u2019un infini esp\u00e9r\u00e9\u2026 Comment ne pas penser au vers de St Jean de la Croix qui dans la nuit obscure allait sans \u00eatre vu\u2026<\/p><p><i>Dans cette nuit heureuse,<\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>en secret, car nul ne me voyait,<\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>ni moi ne voyais rien,<\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>sans autre lueur ni guide<\/i><i><br \/><\/i><i>que celle qui en mon c\u0153ur br\u00fblait.\u00a0<\/i><span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_9\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[9]<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/terredecompassion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bacon5-1-e1575278002114.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p><p><em>Triptyque,<\/em>\u00a0Francis Bacon<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>L\u2019invisible s\u2019est toujours repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 en peinture. Les cinq sens, les plaisirs intellectuels, les forces divines ont \u00e9t\u00e9 exprim\u00e9s et s\u2019expriment encore de bien des fa\u00e7ons. Le temps qui passe, le vieillissement et l\u2019in\u00e9luctabilit\u00e9 de la mort \u00e9galement, (pensons par exemple \u00e0 un bouquet de rose allant du bouton \u00e0 la fleur fan\u00e9e). D\u2019innombrables vanit\u00e9s cherchent \u00e0 nous orienter par le m\u00eame proc\u00e9d\u00e9 all\u00e9gorique soit vers les plaisirs de la vie, soit vers les vertus bienheureuses. Francis Bacon fuit ces codes. Il distingue l\u2019illustrateur qui d\u00e9crit la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 du peintre r\u00e9aliste qui dit quelque chose du r\u00e9el\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_10\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[10]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0.\u00a0C\u2019est avec une certaine h\u00e9ro\u00efcit\u00e9 et sans compromis que le peintre cherche la v\u00e9rit\u00e9 de la figure qui doit marquer sa toile. Fini les fards et les d\u00e9tours, la pr\u00e9sence se doit d\u2019appara\u00eetre! La chose doit se saisir dans l\u2019imm\u00e9diatet\u00e9. Le miracle doit se manifester! Chaos lui-m\u00eame dans un si\u00e8cle de chaos, il cherche \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0laisser un document sur la vie\u00a0\u00bb. C\u2019est comme si tout \u00e9tait d\u00e9sormais pouss\u00e9 par une urgence. Sa peinture se tache de sang\u00a0<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_39345_1_11\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[11]<\/sup><\/a><\/span>\u00a0au si\u00e8cle des id\u00e9ologies meurtri\u00e8res ; elle vacille et chancelle au temps des nouvelles sciences humaines et des philosophies de l\u2019absurde. \u00c0 l\u2019heure des exterminations de masse, l\u2019homme que peint Bacon se r\u00e9duit au corps, se concentre sur la chair au point parfois de donner l\u2019impression qu\u2019il veut entrer en elle. L\u2019homme est le corps, le corps est la viande, la viande est souffrance. Le r\u00e9sultat est sans \u00e9chappatoire, sans excuses.
